Oops sorry for the late updates
I have been in a roller coaster mood lately.
Having left my beloved company of 3 years, with only 2 days to pickup my feelings and devote myself to another new company by Monday. You have to forgive me for not blogging.
Like I said, I packed my last belonging on Friday, and everyone stayed on to say goodbye. truly emotional affair. I gave some of my stationaries away to my ex-colleagues. There's also one cute 'head-nodding' toy that been on my desk for the past 3 years. I gave it away to Suhaily. She promised that she will invite me to her house on Hari Raya as well.
Darren was also there, having came back from Vietnam just a few hrs from the plane. Hand over all outstanding issues to him, cleaned up my laptop programs and personal stuffs inside :P
I am gonna miss my laptop. =(
Gave the old colleagues a nice tea treat. Bought some donuts from vivo, Beard papa, Old Chang kee and some pastries from Bread talk. (andIalsogaveaboxofdonutstosomeonewhohappenstomoveintoPSAbuildingHUR) Fate is really cruelllllllllllllll :P I move out, she move in. *BLEH*
Anyway, Alice (Pantry auntie) gave me a nice chocolate cake for my departure too! SEE! even my pantry auntie loves me! *haolian*
The weekend was spend in a prawn farm at FarmMart CCK. Very quiet place. I fished there and enjoy the farm life. Also dun want to have any noisy outings that week. Like I said, emotional roller coaster.
Drove to my new coy on Monday. Traffic had been good to me. Reached there at 740am. (And it is quite deserted lol) and I was told no one comes early. They only arrive at 810am onwards. I have not seen the CEO as yet. was told he's a very petty man. Words had spread that he once marked an account asst for not greeting him. and the gal promptly quitted soon afterwards. (scary man)
Adwin (new boss) was telling me, like everyday, REMEMBER TO GREET HIM AH! (but I have not made any direct contact with him, although we shared the same toilet on the same floor)
Adwin and Eric is very nice. Perhaps initially the phase is kinda warm. My department (Dept 6X) is the most profitable dept in the whole company. Most of the staffs and requests from that dept are usually done on a priority basis. Even the parking lot is reserved for Dept 62. I feel so lucky. But it also means I have to be extra hardworking on these basis.
I'll be attending a safety course for shipyard this coming 28th Aug. Its a compulsory course for all engineers to attend so they can go onboard a ship. Yes. its so rare for me to even set foot on a cruise liner. I have the chance to go onboard and meet shipowners and professionals.
So 28th Aug is like a 'eat snake day' for me. Course is 8 hrs long, but i doubt i'll fail anyway. and its in town! More like tanjong pagar. All the ah nehs took this course and passed with flying colors. this is the basic requirement. and I will be issued a pass with photo so I can travel to shipyards all over Singapore with ease. There's also a safety supervisor course which will be schedule later. More hard and needs more studying as well.
So these few days, I am just trying to see what's happening in the dept. Every morning, the workers will gather outside the department. and all started talking. Who goes to which shipyards and henceforth. I only seen them in the morning. they never came back till the next morning. to update on their work status. Kinda messy but I guess all these years its become a norm. and it'll be especially quiet after they left.
I spend my time reading up the catalogue pages. Amazingly this product had only 2 company in SIngapore carrying. and its highly competitive for both of our companies. the profit margin is usually 100% or more. (More labour intensive) There's also quotations to read up. and disgustinly, there are complex calculations to do prior to submission. But its still okay, standard formulas.
Also have to submit some more documents pertaining to the Ships classification. Still learning. But I think the next paragraph will interest you.
Dept 6X had no less than 6 mths bonses (+ 13th mth) every year. Yup, 6 mths! Work 1 yr free 6 mths! Sort of thing.
No wonder all so hush-hush in this department. Oh yeah,I also heard there isnt much activities for the staffs there. all work like hell, received the yrly bonuses and that's about it. No D&D. =(
Our department is targetting 7mil this year. (I was doing 1mil plus per yr in my ex-dept in my own sector). 7 mil is a tall figure. But looking at the work orders (each ard 10K minimum), 7 mil doesnt seems so difficult. I guess.
Today I was on board a vessel in a highly sensitive place in Sembawang. It was a USA vessel and I have never been so upclose with a warship. and the security checks at the front entrance is also quite stringent. Photo taken and IC taken. Temp pass issued. Passed thr 3 more security booths before reaching the ship. and had to walk. Reach the ship, also have to issue pass (their personal ones) before we can inspect the engine gearbox. All done in a hush-manner.
I also seen some NZ defense troops inside. Something you hardly seen in Singapore. (although I have not obtained my cert yet, I was still allowed to go inside the ship =x) very lucky and nice experience. Eye-opener. and I left my workplace at 3pm and came straight home after that! Haha!
Parking is more convenient now for me. As I came back when the skies is still bright and sunny (530pm), I got the best lot in my MSCP. but of course, I am using a desktop in my coy which I am still getting used to. (at least dun have to bring my work home)
Another nice thing about this job, there is ample opportunities to go overseas as well. and its usually a few days job and straight back to Singapore. Was told to prepare for at least 10 jobs per year overseas. Oh well, we will see how much this company takes me.
Higher perhaps? We shall see. :)
Till then, BYE!
